Check Address Points against MSAG

Use this tool, located on Tools Menu > Show Map Editing Tools > Advanced Tools > Reporting, to report any existing point addresses that are not consistent with an master street address guide (MSAG). Both the point address layer and MSAG must exist as layers on the current map.

To check address points:

1) First import an msag database into its own layer using the Import DBF tool or other import method.

2) Select this tool from the Report menu.

3) Select the layer that contains the point addresses.

4) Select the layer that contains the msag text.

5) Specify which fields of the address point layer contain the following information:

Street Name

Pre Directional

Community

House Number

Report field - Think GIS will log the results of the report to this field. Any existing values in this field will be overwritten if re-running the report.

6) Specify which fields of the msag layer contain the following information:

Street Name

Pre Directional

Community

Starting House Number Range

Ending House Number Range

7) For each address point that fails to match the msag one of the following messages will be logged to the report field (specified above) on the address point layer.

Street mismatch = the point addresses street name did not match the msag.

Range mismatch = the point addresses house number did not fall between any starting/ending values in the msag.

Dir mismatch = the point addresses pre-direction did not match the msag.

Community mismatch = the point addresses community did not match the msag.

(blank) = point address matched msag.

These comparisons are performed in the order listed so, for example, if "Dir mismatch" is reported that means msag matches were found for both the street name and range.

To graphically view the results use Line Color Classification to color the address points per the report field.
