New Feature + Symbol + Line

This tool is considered obsolete, as using multiple geometry types on the same layer is not an advisable best practice.

This wizard, located on Tools Menu > Show Map Editing Tools > Advanced Tools > Production Tools, automates the process of adding features to the map that consist of a symbol and line segment. This is most commonly used for plotting address points. This procedure is designed to eliminate several steps in the repetitive process of

Creating a new feature,

Plot a symbol representing this feature,

Connect the symbol to another point with a line,

Repeat...

Running this procedure:

1) Select "New Feature + Symbol + Line" from the  menu.

2) If this is the first time running this tool since starting Think GIS, setup configuration is required. See Setup section below. Otherwise a setup summary is displayed and the user will be asked to make any changes before continuing.

3) In the blank feature form that appears type in the information about the new feature and then press Enter.

4) Click the left mouse button to place the symbol on the map. See Draw Symbol for more details on plotting symbols.

5) Then click the left mouse button on a second point and a line segment will be added connecting the symbol with this point.

As soon as step 5 is completed, the tool will immediately be returned to step 3 to start again with a new feature. Press Esc while the new feature form is displayed to finish this process.

Setup: (referred to in step 2 above)

A) Select the destination layer. This is the layer that the new features and entities will be placed on.

B) What if the feature already exists? The answer to this question is used by the New Ftr tool if attempting to create a feature that matches one that already exists.

Notes:

Some data in the feature form may be automatically generated due to the field settings. See Layer Format for information.

Use the NewFeatureWizard command to programmatically pass a layer name and exist action to this tool.

See other similar tools on the Production Tools menu.

Tool use instructions will also appear in the footer of the Think GIS window in the Instructional Bar.
