Layer Order

To change the order of the layers do the following:

1) Open the Layer Settings window.

2) Point the mouse to the gray box at left edge of a row.

3) Press and hold down the left mouse button and drag the layer, or category, up or down.

4) Release the button to drop the layer inserting it into the position indicated by the blue line.

Importance of draw order:

Each time the screen is drawn, layers are drawn one at a time in the order they are listed in the Layer Settings window. Therefore, if features on two or more different layers overlap each other then the layer listed last will be drawn in front while other layers drawn in back may be covered up.

Notes:

Categories, indicated by the plus or minus symbol, can be moved just like an individual layer. Categories cannot be nested inside of other categories.

Layers can be added to categories, removed from categories, or moved from one category to another by dropping them in the appropriate position as indicated by the blue drop line as users move the mouse. An indented blue drop line indicates that the drop point is within the category.

See Layer Categories for information about creating categories.

For a layer to never be covered up by another layer then move it to the bottom of the list.

Always list background imagery layers at the beginning of the list.

Any layers that contain filled areas should be listed after any background imagery but before other layers such as roads, addresses, etc.
