Create Template From Layer

Layer templates are empty layers that have been pre-setup with the appropriate set of fields, form layout, colors, and other settings recommended for certain applications. Templates are used to create new map layers.

To create a layer template

1) Open the Layer Settings Window by select Setup - Layer Settings from the main menu.

2) Right click on the existing layer to base the template on and select "Create a Template from this Layer" from the popup menu.

3) Type a template name. This is the name that will be displayed in the list of templates whenever a user chooses to create a new layer. This name is also used as the file name to store the template.

4) Type a default layer name. This is the descriptive name that will be assigned to any layers created from this template.

5) The final window displays the contents of the advanced layer settings for this layer. Type a description here and add or modify any other advanced layer settings content. These settings will be applied to the template only and will not affect the selected layer.

Notes:

By default, layer templates are stored in the LayerTemplates directory under the Think GIS directory. If a different directory is desired, specify it in the Workstation Settings window.
