Layer Selectibility

Selectability controls how the entities displayed on the screen for a particular layer interact with the user.

By default, all layers are selectable which means clicking a line will display its identity in the Info Window, and double-clicking will bring up the Feature Form. Or draw a window while using an editing tool to select all the lines inside that window. This is normal behavior when selectability is enabled.

Sometimes, however, there may be a certain layer that users might not want to be selectable. Unchecking this boxes makes this possible even though the layer is still displayed on the screen.

Example:

A cosmetic edge of pavement layer on a map has no data attached to it. While a road centerline layer drawn nearby is rich in data. When zoomed out it may be very difficult for the user to double click on the road centerline to reveal its data since they accidentally pick the edge of pavement layer half the time. The solution in this case, then, is to uncheck the selectability setting for the edge of pavement layer.
