Think GIS is very tolerant of ugly geometry. But there are occasions, such as when exporting layers to other file formats, that users might be required to detect and fix any abnormal conditions.
This tool, located on Tools Menu > Show Map Editing Tools > Advanced Tools > Cleanup and Conversion Tools, will prompt users for a layer and selection window and then proceed to check all entities in that area for the following conditions.
•Areas that have duplicate verticies
•Polylines that have duplicate verticies
•Areas that are self intersecting (such as with a small "loop" in the boundary path of an area)
