This tool, located on Tools Menu > Show Map Editing Tools > Advanced Tools > Cleanup and Conversion Tools, is designed to change the angle and alignment of address labels so that they are perpendicular to the road they are associated with. This tool was developed specifically for making maps less cluttered for the purpose of printing map books.
Procedure
1) If the addresses are currently represented on the map with symbols (most common) then the first step is to convert all the symbols to labels
2) Run this tool
3) Select the layer containing the labels
4) Draw a box to select which labels to convert
In order for a label to be automatically adjusted, there must be a nearby polyline that has the same name as the address. That is, the first field of the road feature must match the first field of the label. This is usually the case for a road and address point layer.
