Use the polyline button to draw one or more line segments chained together. After selecting this button use the left mouse button to click on two or more points on the canvas. Right click when done picking points. While the symbol editor shows all line work as black, these lines will be drawn on the map using the line color selected for the layer that the symbol is used on.
