Import From MIF/MID File

Use this command, located on the Tools Menu > Import/Export Menu, to import Map Info Interchange files.

To import mif/mid files:

1)From the main menu select Tools - Import/Export - Import From MIF/MID File

2)Browse for the MIF file to be imported.

3)"Do you want to combine like features into the same record?"

oNo: this is the default answer which will import the data unmodified.

oYes: Answer Yes to simplify how the data is organized. One common application of this is the combining of multiple road segment records into one record per unique road name. This makes it easier to answer questions like "where is River Rd" but removes the ability to assign other attributes to individual portions of River Rd.

4)"How should text features be imported?"

oUse text in MID record: with this option Think GIS will import the database record and place a label on the map at the location specified by the text entity. The actual text that gets displayed at this label point will be determined by the labeling rules specified for this layer in Think GIS.

oUse text in MIF record: with this option Think GIS will ignore the database record and create a feature using the text from the mif file.

oSelect an import method:

oAdd to an existing Layer: Select this option to import the information into a layer that already exists on the map combining it with any content that already exists on that layer. Users will next be prompted to select an existing layer and then a list of source and destination fields will be displayed where users can specify what fields in the MIF/MID files get copied to what fields in the destination layer for each feature that is imported.

oOverwrite an existing Layer: Same as above only the layer will first be erased before importing.
